2010 - 2011 Coaches needed

For Rec-plus (travel) we are looking for travel coaches/assists to start up new teams.

We aim to confirm new travel coaches and teams prior to accepting players upon evaluation. During fall evaluations we might end up with more players than teams so we need to ID some coaches. Each academic fall season some coaches and their children may move up in divisions by their child's age and therefore leaves a vacuum for the next division coach to move up a division. Many recreational coaches step up to expand their levels into Rec-plus experience. In the case of U14 the players might have aged out of the division limits.

Our goal is to keep availability of teams and coaches for the players in all divisions, also it should be known there are various skill levels in each division so many players can participate. It is common to have several teams in the same division.

Travel Team Information

New Players and parents  interested in Rec-plus (travel) teams have  a misconception that the term "travel" referred to distances like Ft. Wayne, Indianapolis or northern Illinois towns.

This is what Dyer Kickers "Rec-plus (Travel) Soccer" is about.

Rec-plus (Travel) is typically for those players that excel in our in-house league and either need or would like more of a challenge. Travel is for players that like the challenge of playing head to head against their opponent. It is a competitive league so score and standings are kept. It's also a step up for in-house coaches wanting more of a challenge. We need coaches to step up. There are multi skill color levels for various team rankings dependin on their development. A new team and coach can start out with a lower color level and from season to season move up to the metallics like bronze, silver, or gold.

Half of the games are played at close communities like Munster, Schererville and Highland.

There is a possibility of playing games in Michigan City or Demotte. It depends on whether they have a team in your team's division.

But again, half of our games are played at home. Either at Pheasant Hills or Northgate Park so traveling is at a minimum and most placed typically range from 20 to 40 minutes away with a few exceptions.

As the teams progress up in the age groups some coaches may enter their teams in out of town tournaments. The coach plans these well in advance with the willingness of the player's parents. Some examples of tournaments our travel teams have played in the past seasons are the Highland 3v3 Tournament, Mayors Cup 7v7 Tournament (Hammond) and the State Challenge Cup (various sites). There are also several Halloween tournaments around the Indianapolis area that are fun to attend. These tournaments are done as a fun event for the team to participate.

Rec-plus (Travel) teams have a better possibility of staying together as a team throughout multiple seasons instead of having new teams each season. During the winter months the coaches may have their team participate in indoor soccer at one of the local facilities.

Placement is based on numerous factors:

  • In the fall, which is the official start of our soccer year, teams are typically selected based on a combination of player evaluations and coaches input at the travel evaluations.
  • The age of the player as of July 31st of the Fall season (i.e. Fall of 2010 would use 07/31/2010 and then so would the Spring season) decides which age group (U8, U10, U12, U14) they have to play in.
  • The Spring season is a carryover of our Fall season. Existing teams generally stay together so openings are filled as needed.
  • The Spring season ends with the NWISL tournament.
  • The number of sign-ups affects the formation of teams.

Our Rec-plus (travel) teams play in the Northwest Indiana Soccer League www.nwisl.com, which is affiliated, with the Soccer Association for Youth www.saysoccer.com.
