Do the teams rosters stay the same in the Spring as they were in the Fall?

Yes, for most of the players. There usually are a few exceptions for new registration players and some who may have not re-registered. The travel teams usually stay more together as it is more competitive.

I would like to volunteer to coach, assist coach, travel coach, team manager or help but don't have any experience. What can I do to learn and how do I get started?

Dyer kickers makes it real easy and has a coaches clinic where we have Chicago Fire pro trainers teach you the fundamentals, provide & demonstrate start up drills and seasonal coach and player training. Our coach / player development director and/or pro trainer visit your team practice, especially if you are new to give you guidance and tips. We also have links on our site to help yourself to additional training drills. We also have commissioners that can steer you about any uncertainties you might encounter. All you need to do to get started is contact our club via email (contact page) and tell us you want to coach, assist coach, travel coach, team manager or other volunteer efforts like field preparation. You can sign up by emailing the club at mail@dyerkickers.org or sign up at one of the registrations.

How does my child participate on a Rec-plus (travel) team?

Rec-plus (Travel) team placements are based on coach and player availability. There are limited slots in various age groups since the teams generaly stay together through out the seasons. If new teams are formed then there are more openings. Your child may or may not be on a Rec-plus (travel) team depending on the number of players the travel coaches need on their teams and openings. When we first identify and confirm a Rec-plus (travel)coach volunteer we then communicate through our mailing list that a Rec-plus (travel) team is forming and then provide the coach contact information to our members to make contact and identify player interested. We also encourage new Rec-plus (travel) coaches to email us at mail@dyerkickers.org to help us open opportunities for more travel players. We likewise encourage players to email the club too so we can keep a list of players waiting for a team placement pending we have another coach. Rec-plus (Travel) teams are more agressive and challenging. Travel teams typically start the season two weeks before recreational(Inhouse)teams. Rec-plus (Travel) teams play about half of their games at home and the other half away in sorrounding towns. Most towns withing 30 minutes and an occassional more distant town within 1 hour. Travel players pay a little more but receive more pro training than inhouse because of the competitive nature.

When is MLS summer camp and Pro training academy?

MLS Chicago Fire summer camp is usually the third week in July. Visit our training academy page for more details and registration information. We maintain a list of families interested in housing a British pro trainer and a benefit of doing so is some personal player instructions and tips. Pro training academy covers the spring recreational teams the same time the Spring season starts and lasts the whole season about 8-10 weeks. Travel teams start pro training in the fall season for a duration of about 8-10 weeks.

I am new and want to know what my child needs to play soccer. I also would like to know more about what's involved.

Most in house recreational soccer players should get a pair of soccer plastic spikes. They cannot be baseball spikes where a spike is protruding on the toe area of the shoe. Gym shoes are acceptable but the player's performance may be less with gym shoes. A soccer ball is needed for U6 and U8 of size #3, U10 and U12 is a size #4,U14 and U18 is a size #5. Player needs to have adequate shin guards for protection. Bring a water bottle at every practice and at games (gatorade etc,. your choice). The recreational set up is the players receive a Jersey with Dyer kickers Logo and numbered (free with registration), a trophy at end of season (U6 and U8). For the Fall season only, a pizza party may be thrown by the coach, and photos are also set up in the fall.
